HPP Globocica
HPP Globocica is a part of HES Crn Drim. It is located in the western part of North Macedonia on the river Crn Drim, about 30 km north from Struga. This derivative power plant which closes the narrow profile of the river Crn Drim, with its accumulation makes weekly equation of the consumption diagram.
The accumulation has volume of 55.300.000 m3 water, out of which the useful volume 13.200.000 m3 water. Into the Globocica accumulation through special canals inflows the waters from the rivers Jablanska and Selecka. The last one is connected with the surge tank and from there through the tunnel to the accumulation.
History 1954 – 1956 During this period, Preliminary Designs were prepared in parallel with investigation works
1957 – 1961 The preparation of the Main Design starts, for in 1960 to start the construction of the power plant.
1965 Commissioning of HPP Globica
1998 In May, 1998 the Electric Power Company of Macedonia has signed Loan agreement with the International bank for reconstruction and development (IBRD) – World Bank. The facilities of this loan are in amount of 61.5 million DEM were awarded to PC ESM for realization of the project “Project for improvement of the Electric Power System in Macedonia”.
2001-2005 With success was realized the project for rehabilitation of 6 hydro power plants in Republic of Macedonia, which is exceedingly important and complex project. In general, the main 4 achievements of the rehabilitation of the existing hydropower plants in Republic of Macedonia are:
- Increased installed capacity in hydro-generation and improved primary and secondary system regulation.
- Increased hydro energy production.
- Decreasing the maintenance costs of the HPPs operation.
- Decreasing the possibilities for unscheduled outages of the hydro aggregates, HPPs and in general in the electric power system.
2014 With the completion of one of the most complex projects – realization of the second phase of the rehabilitation of hydropower plants, installation of the new equipment for monitoring of the dams “Mavrovo”, “Globochica”, “Spilje”, “Tikves”, “Kozjak “and” Sveta Petka” was finished.
Within the project additional equipment was installed, for the automation of electricity production process and for auscultation and observing the conditions, stability and safety of dams and associated facilities.
Inflow system The inflow tunnel with circular intersection and length оf 7.688 м, diameter is 4,40 m, V=3,1 m/s. The sill of the entrance object is 673,50 maSL. The surge tank is cylindrical type, two lower extensions one of which is used as desecration chamber and one upper chamber, differential type with spillway sill and opening in the shape of vertical shaft through which the affected waters from river Selecka are inducted.
Dam and accumulation HPP Globocica has rock filled dam with height of 94,5 m, which forms accumulation with total volume of 58,4million m3,out of which the useful volume is 13,2 million m3. The normal designed operation level of the accumulation is 687,50 maSL, and the minimal level is 682,80 maSL.
Hydropower plant Hydropower plant Globocica is designed and constructed with installed capacity of 42 MW and annual generation of 180 GWh. The power house is located at the right bank of the river Crni Drim, at 7,8 km downstream of the dam, right upstream of the inflow of river Selecka. In the power house there are two units equipped with Francis turbines with vertical axis, located 576,75 maSL, as well as three – phase synchronous generators. The transformers are located outside the power house. The location of the plant 110kV is external.
